GUEST BLOG: INSTRUCTOR HEATHER WHITLA ON THE BENEFITS OF BLOCK THERAPY
It was almost 3 years ago, when the Father of a friend of mine suddenly woke from a coma after 8 months. What he woke up to were lifeless arms, frozen stiff hands and fingers, and next to no blood flowing throughout the arms. There was literally no life in this man’s arms. I asked my friend if she would let me work on him with the Fluid Isometrics technique of tissue manipulation and release of adhesions. This is what happened…
After just the first hour, of a two week, 1 hour per day manipulation, my friend’s Father asked me why his nail beds were blue. I explained to him that previous to that first hour, he had absolutely no circulation to his hands, and now his fingers were starting to receive blood. His fingers were frozen stiff and he was not able to bend his fingers to do very simple tasks such as feeding himself. By the end of day 3, his fingers were no longer white as snow, they were pinkish and he had increased mobility in his hands…even able to grip a cup! Steadily increasing mobility daily, and incredibly fast …so much so that by the end of two weeks he was able to make a fist and use his hands as he had done before his coma experience.
Block Therapy is the therapeutic tool we use to take the place of what Fluid Isometrics does with the hands. Just as effectively releasing the adhesions of connective tissue, increasing blood flow and improving functioning of our organs, in addition to increasing mobility and range of motion of joints, reducing pain and injury. Block Therapy is the self-care version, where I teach everyone how to become their own health advocates.
The individual lies on a therapeutic tool called the Block Buddy™ for a minimum of three minutes in various positions throughout the body. Wood is used as the therapeutic tool because, unlike artificial materials like foam or plastic, it shares similar density to bone. With gravity and body weight, the Block Buddy™ is able to sink deeply into the tissue all the way to the bone. This pressure brings increased blood and oxygen into the area warming the connective tissue and “melting” the powerful seal between the layers of unhealthy restrictions. The student is taught to use diaphragmatic breathing to bring into the body up to 600% more oxygen. This combination of increased oxygen, the freeing of adhesions, proper posture and alignment form the basis of the Fluid Isometrics™ system.
Frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain, migraines, digestive issues, varicose veins, cellulite, arthritis, just to mention a few very problematic issues that many of us have in our experience, can be overcome with the release of frozen fascia and increase of bloodflow and correct alignment, allowing the body to naturally heal itself, with the guided instruction in my Block Therapy classes.
Here are some of the benefits that Block Therapy can offer:
We have become unconscious of our posture lifelong, and our connective tissue, or Fascia, goes into protective mode in an attempt to stop us from falling off balance even more, ultimately creating dense fascia and blocking blood flow and oxygen to our cells, tissue, organs, joints etc. creating a state of disharmony in the body and we end up with disease, aging and chronic pain in our experience.
Block Therapy is a Meditation, Therapy, and Exercise all rolled up into one. Once you have tried and felt the difference for yourself, there is no turning back. Join me in my 3 class series. Each of the 3 classes targets a different section of the body so that we can bring the body back into proper anatomical positioning for everything to flow freely, and diaphragmatically breathing which is the foundational support system to the core. I recommend that you start with the Core class, where full explanation of the diaphragm is described.
Join me Monday evenings at Blue Sky Fitness Studio, 468 St.Anne’s Rd., 5:30-7, and lets start becoming healthier, at a cellular level, together. I have our “Block Buddy’s” for you to try, all you need is a yoga mat.
It is amazing and a “must try”!!!
