Ha! Got your attention didn’t I?
I figured this was a great attention grabbing title especially considering we are embarking on a New Year and anyone and everyone is likely setting a New Year’s Resolution which is often related to weight loss.
But what is weight loss?
Too often clients of mine are focused on the number on the scale. “Oh my God I gained 5 pounds this past week”! or “My weight doesn’t move on the scale so why bother…” (sigh).
What if we changed our focus from losing weight to becoming strong?
Strength is going to get us so much more!!
1. Our body will be strong to lift our children, dog, or heavy snow while shovelling
2. Our body will gain lean muscle mass in turn decreasing our body fat as we become a better fat burner with more metabolically active muscle tissue.
3. We will sleep better, as our body will need to repair broken down tissue.
4. Our energy will increase as with exercise our body releases endorphins which fuel us to accomplish more in our days!
5. Our clothes will fit better as we get more toned and leaner shaping our body through weight training.
6. Our bones will become more dense and less chance of fracturing in our mid to later years.
So this year I challenge you to only weigh yourself maximum of once a month if at all. Instead, get down on the floor and see how many push ups you can do. Then, after a month of doing push ups every day take a look at how much you’ve improved…now that’s real results. It makes me crazy when people place such a strong focus on the scale…do not define yourself by a number!
